Marriage Blues - Are Wedding Arrangements Necessity/Desire?

Just back from my cousin's wedding , the long awaited wedding since 8 months finally went well. The list goes endless from caterers to beauticians its all money and the end result a highly swollen credit cards bills. Meeting people is always nice in marriages but when they coax you into their personal life and try to find their personal satisfaction through you is a worry.

Women are busy with gossips, mostly its about who is wearing what? what wedding gifts did one give and evaluating their worth ? How beautiful the bride looks? Comments on her skin texture, color and the how good the pair looks? Deep down are they the perfect matches? Is it a love or an arranged marriage? Ratings on Food served? The Hospitality one receives when attending the marriage?

Exchanging telephone numbers on every marriage but never calling anyone.

In India experience teaches you a lot since wedding is a One way road till now and acceptance has been deeply imbibed in our culture since independence days.

I find that most people attend marriages for some reasons:
1.If they have a suitable boy/girl then they can get some contacts and prospects during this occasion.
2. A few of them come since they need people when they have their children get married.
3. Few close relatives love the idea of family occasion and they come and grace with love and bless them.
4. There are a cactus bunch of people who with their bitterness/sourness in marriage keep on giving free advice and unnecessarily peep into other's private lives.
5. A few others catch hold of people like me and give their Gyan (knowledge) on how difficult it is to live without a partner  while deep down they are handicapped by the lack of independence when they find single people.
6. Young cousins die for photo sessions with the bride and the groom and they run around photographers.

When two people have decided to live for each other forever why is there a need for all these arrangements? A simple marriage can do a lot of things by giving them time, money from which they can build their dreams  instead of spending lakhs, even otherwise dreams are meant to be build but it can be made easier  with this few lakhs of money.

Looking forward to my sister's marriage :-) , not sure if it will have the usual arrangements or will it be a simple marriage?
